Fuel Tanker Truck Driver

About the role

G Mining Ventures (GMIN) operates the Oko West gold project, a new gold discovery about 95 km west of Georgetown in northwest Guyana. The Fuel Tanker Driver transports diesel, gasoline and other petroleum products safely between Oko Barge Landing and the Oko Mine site, and handles internal fuel transfers at the barge landing. Fuel transport is described as the highest-risk trucking operation on site, so the driver must be disciplined, safety-obsessed and fully trained in hazardous materials handling.

Key responsibilities

• Safely operate fuel tanker trucks between the barge landing and the mine site.
• Perform tanker-specific pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tank valves, hoses, seals, grounding cables, vents, emergency shutoffs and fire suppression equipment.
• Complete all fuel documentation before every load: transfer forms, waybills, dipstick readings and delivery receipts.
• Connect grounding cables before each loading and unloading, and keep spill kits fully stocked on the tanker.
• Enforce the 50-metre no-smoking zone around the tanker and follow designated routes only.
• Coordinate with the fuel team and General Helpers for barge deliveries and dispensing, monitor fuel levels during transport and stop immediately if anomalies occur.
• Support fuel farm operations, respond to spills under the site spill response plan, attend toolbox talks and comply with HSE policies.
• Maintain the tanker in clean, safe condition and report mechanical issues immediately.

Required profile

• At least 3 years operating tanker trucks for fuel or hazardous liquids.
• Valid Guyana driver's licence for heavy vehicles / tankers, clean record with no major hazardous material incidents.
• Experience with bulk fuel receiving from barges and in Guyana's interior mining operations.
• Physically fit for hose handling and outdoor tropical work; availability for extended hours during critical operations.

Required skills

• Fuel handling safety: static grounding, vapor management, emergency shutoffs, spill containment.
• Hazmat transport certification or formal HAZMAT training, and defensive driving certification.
• First Aid / CPR certification.
• Radio communication with dispatch and fuel teams.
