Security Manager - Oko Gold Project

About the role

The Security Manager at the Oko Gold Project in Guyana reports to the General Manager and oversees all security aspects of a gold mining operation, including protection of company assets, gold room security and the secure transport of gold bullion. The role develops and implements security protocols to prevent theft, loss and unauthorized access, ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, leads a security team and works with law enforcement, internal stakeholders and external security partners. It is a rotation-based position.

Key responsibilities

• Protect the gold room and ensure best-practice loss prevention, and develop protocols for the safe transport of gold bullion to refineries or banks, coordinating with law enforcement and private security firms
• Carry out regular security risk assessments of gold processing and transport routes and maintain robust access control
• Safeguard mine equipment, fuel and explosives, run surveillance system audits and lead investigations into theft, fraud and breaches
• Recruit, train and manage a security team (armed and unarmed), run employee safety and emergency response training and set up a whistleblower program
• Ensure compliance with local, national and international security regulations, prepare security reports and incident analyses, and work with HR and legal on disciplinary measures
• Build relationships with law enforcement and private security providers, represent the company with government authorities and coordinate emergency response plans

Required profile

• At least 10 years of security experience, including at least 5 years in a senior security role in mining or high-value asset protection
• Experience managing gold room security, bullion transport and anti-theft strategies
• Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminology, Law Enforcement or a related field preferred
• Background in law enforcement, military or corporate security preferred
• Knowledge of a language other than French is required
