Mechanical Engineer - Gold Mine

About the role

G Mining Ventures (GMIN) acquired the Oko West gold project in July 2024, a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana about 95 km west of Georgetown. The company is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to keep the mechanical systems and equipment of its mining operations running efficiently, safely and reliably. The position is based at the project site, on a 14 days on, 7 days off schedule, with transport, accommodation and meals provided.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems and equipment for mining operations, perform stress and failure analysis, component sizing and material selection, and review and approve drawings, plans and specifications.
• Oversee maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of equipment such as conveyors, crushers, pumps and engines, and set up preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards, conduct risk assessments and safety audits, and promote safe work practices.
• Lead or support mechanical projects from concept to completion, integrate mechanical systems with other site operations, and mentor junior engineers and maintenance staff.
• Identify process improvements, evaluate new technologies and work with the operations team to boost productivity and reduce costs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field; a master's degree is a plus.
• At least 2-3 years of experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, and ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering principles, including materials science, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
• CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and mechanical analysis tools.
• Familiarity with mining machinery such as crushers, mills, pumps and conveyors.
