Senior Mining Engineer

About the role

G Mining Ventures (GMIN) acquired the Oko West project, a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana about 95 km west of Georgetown, in July 2024. The company is looking for an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to plan, design and manage the mining operations so that minerals are extracted efficiently, safely and cost-effectively. The position is based at the Oko Project site.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mining plans, designs and schedules for underground or open-pit operations, and run feasibility studies and risk assessments aligned with budget, safety and environmental standards
• Develop and optimise drilling and blasting techniques, mine layouts and equipment needs, and guide resource estimation, pit optimisation and extraction strategies
• Oversee mining projects, coordinate with geologists, surveyors, environmental engineers and others, and monitor progress against performance and site conditions
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, local regulations and environmental laws; conduct safety audits, emergency response planning and incident investigations
• Mentor and train junior engineers and technical staff
• Control project budgets, develop cost-effective strategies and improve operational efficiency and productivity
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for management, regulators and stakeholders, and report regularly on operations and milestones

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mining engineering, Geology or a related field with equivalent experience
• At least 5-10 years' experience in a similar role
• Strong organisational and multitasking skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly and attention to detail in data entry and records

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Technical knowledge of mining processes and systems
