Assay Lab Technician

About the role

G Mining Ventures (GMIN) acquired the OKO West gold project in July 2024, a new gold discovery about 95 km west of Georgetown in northwest Guyana. The company is hiring an Assay Lab Technician who prepares, processes and analyzes samples, operates laboratory equipment, records analytical data, carries out quality-control checks and supports safe, accurate and timely lab operations under approved procedures and supervision. The role may be assigned to fire assay or other laboratory work areas depending on operational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Perform sample preparation, weighing, digestion, fire assay, wet chemistry, instrumental analysis or other laboratory tasks for which you are trained and authorized.
• Follow approved procedures, work instructions, chain-of-custody controls, calculations and QA/QC requirements.
• Prepare reagents, standards, solutions and fluxes when trained and authorized.
• Operate laboratory equipment and instruments according to approved procedures and site safety controls.
• Run blanks, standards, duplicates, checks and calibrations, and report non-conforming results immediately.
• Record sample, batch, equipment, QC and result data in approved forms, worksheets, LIMS or other systems.
• Clean up, troubleshoot and report defects, and maintain a safe, contamination-controlled workplace.
• Report safety hazards, spills and abnormal conditions, and take part in training, shift handovers and safety meetings.
• Fire-assay duties such as weighing, fluxing, fusion, cupellation and prill handling are possible once trained and authorized.

Required profile

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Assay Lab Technician.
• Diploma, degree or certificate in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Laboratory Technology, Assaying, Metallurgy or a related field; practical experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education where permitted.
• Previous mine-site, assay, metallurgical, environmental or industrial laboratory experience is preferred.
• English-speaking, able to work safely and cooperatively in a shift-based production environment.

Required skills

• Ability to follow written procedures, perform calculations, recognize abnormal results and keep accurate records.
• Safe operation of laboratory equipment after training and competency verification.
• Basic computer skills and use of approved laboratory data-entry systems.
