Chief of Mission – Senior Leadership Role (Expression of Interest)

About the role

The Chief of Mission (CoM) will lead IOM’s Country Office, overseeing policy, administrative, programme and financial functions. Reporting to the Director General, Regional Director and, where applicable, the Resident Coordinator, the CoM ensures alignment with IOM’s strategic vision and the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic country programmes, ensuring they meet IOM’s vision and UN development objectives.
• Lead resource mobilisation efforts with multilateral, bilateral donors and public‑private partners.
• Oversee the execution of migration‑related projects, guaranteeing high‑quality performance and impact.
• Represent IOM in UN Country Team meetings, fostering inter‑agency collaboration and joint programming.
• Manage operational, human‑resources, budgetary and financial activities of the Country Office in compliance with organisational rules.

Required profile

• Eligibility limited to candidates in the IOM Pathways Pool (internal or external).
• Proven senior leadership experience in international migration, development or humanitarian contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to engage with governments, UN agencies and diverse stakeholders on policy and programme matters.
