Structural Erection Specialist (Steel Worker)

About the role

G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created in 2020 to own projects directly and capitalise on the value uplift from successful mine development. In July 2024 it acquired the Oko West project, a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana about 95 km west of Georgetown. To deliver this large-scale project, GMIN is looking for an experienced and motivated Structural Erection Specialist.

Key responsibilities

• Perform basic welding tasks safely and efficiently, and determine modifications needed on steel pieces using a grinder, drill and other tools.
• Interpret blueprints, construction drawings and engineering specifications to determine work procedures.
• Hoist, position and secure steel members with cranes, ropes or welding equipment; align components with levels, plumb bobs and laser instruments.
• Bolt or weld structural steel components in place as per approved designs, and inspect materials and connections against design requirements and safety standards.
• Coordinate with crane operators, riggers and site supervisors, and perform rigging duties and move heavy materials safely.
• Work at heights following fall protection protocols, maintain tools, equipment and PPE, and report hazards and near-misses immediately.
• Support general construction activities such as layout and basic structural measurements, and keep the work area clean and organised.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Trade certification in structural steel erection, rigging or equivalent (preferred).
• Valid working at heights and fall protection certification (required).
• Demonstrated commitment to safety in high-risk environments.

Required skills

• Basic welding and rigging.
• Reading blueprints and construction drawings.
• Measuring, aligning and bolting or welding structural steel.
• Effective communication and teamwork with riggers, welders, crane operators and supervisors.
